The purpose of the beginners’ course is to acquaint the beginning student with some of the basic movement patterns, beginning technique, and foundational vocabulary so at the completion of eight sessions the student will wish to join the dojo and become a practitioner of the art.
Beginners’ classes are every Thursday evening from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM. The beginning student may start classes any Thursday evening. Although eight continuous Thursday evenings are encouraged, it is understood the student may not be able to accommodate this request because of other personal commitments. With this in mind, it is understood the student may miss a class now and again — but, he or she should complete the beginners’ course over a period of three months.
For new students, please arrive 15 minutes early in order to make introductions, fill out paperwork, pay beginner-class fees ($100), and orient yourself to the dojo surroundings as well. Since the classes are active, please wear loose clothing so your movement is unrestricted and comfortable. Also, an aikido uniform (gi) may be purchased through the dojo if desired but, is not mandatory for the beginners’ classes.
